MESSI: RONALDO IS ALWAYS SCORING.

Image
Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi praised archrival Cristiano Ronaldo's goal-scoring prowess in an interview published Thursday as speculation mounted that the Portuguese international could be picked as World Player of the Year. A day after picking up a Golden Boot award for scoring 46 league goals last season, more than any other player in Europe, the 26-year-old Messi paid respect to his Real Madrid rival. “I don't know if Cristiano Ronaldo is at his peak but he is always there scoring goals in all the games and taking part in his club and national side,” Messi told Spanish sports daily Marca and other European sports journalists. “He has been doing that for many years and whether he is at his peak or a bit less makes no difference.” The 28-year-old Ronaldo is emerging as the favourite to pick up this year's Ballon d'Or for the world's best player over four-time winner Messi. Ronaldo scored a hat-trick on Tuesday as Portugal beat Sweden to quali

The Madrid attacker who is arguably leading the race for 2013 Ballon d'or based on individual performance has now shifted his attention on his next match in a Madrid shirt. He had this to say in an interview with his club's official website 'We've had an intense couple of days with our national sides but we now have two days ahead of us to prepare as well as possible for the next match. "My only goal now, and that of all my team-mates, is to train so that all the Real Madrid fans continue to feel proud of their team."

Messi receives golden boot.

Leo Messi now has his third Golden Boot, as the top scorer of the European leagues in 2012/13, for his trophy cabinet. Barcelona’s number 10 received the award "with great happiness": "It's a very nice group award, because I could not have won it on my own". His dedication was similar to ones for the other major individual trophies: "It’s for my family, the people who love me, and the squad".

'I have nothing to prove to anyone'

Image
On Tuesday night, the Portugese attacker reminded us all of how   fantastic he is as a football( I doubt if any of us as forgotten though*lol) and truly he has nothing to prove to anyone. After the match against Sweden the Madrid attacker had this to say;Records are there to be beaten. It was not a priority,” he began to Publico. “I knew that Portugal needed me. I do not have to prove anything to anyone. I try to do my work and give answers on the pitch. "I did my job for my team. It is the team who have to be congratulated. We suffered for sure but that is how great teams win things. We retreated a little [when Sweden scored], but then we were better and we played better." The Madrid attacker posted on tweeter after his hat trick sealed  his country's qualification for the World cup at the expense of Sweden and of course Zlatan. “All together we did it! Brazil is waiting for us!”   C.ronaldo is on fire and Brazil can't just wait.

After his hope of reaching Brazil 2014 as a player (e fit go go watch match nah) was dashed by C.Ronaldo whose 4 goals over the course of 180 mins were virulent to the hopes of the Swedish national team, Zlatan Ibrahimovic had this to say "It was probably the last attempt to reach the World Cup with the national team for me. One thing is for sure, a World Cup without me is nothing to watch so it is not worth while to wait for the World Cup," he said to his app Zlatan unplugged. "Congratulations to Portugal, but both teams deserved to get to the World Cup. "The disappointment of course is great now that the World Cup in Brazil will remain a dream for the Swedish national team." Will we miss Zlatan?

7 things that must be done if the Super Eagles are to fly high in Brazil 2014

The president of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan believes the Super Eagles can fly high in Brazil by winning the trophy.. Hmm, bet Mr President didn't watch the Ethiopia game, if the Eagles will ever win a match at the coming world cup then we need to step up our game.. The Ethiopians played with more purpose and hunger, they were just poor in the final third. I really don't see the Super Eagles going far except they make these adjustments. Listed below are seven corrections Keshi most make if we are to have a successful world cup outing:  # Bench Ahmed Musa, I really don't know why he starts almost every game, against Ethiopia I'm sure my grand mum would have performed better. His performance was awful, he shouldn't have lasted more than the first 30 mins and same goes for Brown Ideye. With their performances so far, these two don't deserve playing for 'Cooperative FC'  # Recall Yobo and Osaze at least we need them on the bench, you look at

How much can u bet on a match?

When we talk about passion for football, we know that a lot of people are ardent soccer fans and we also understand that the degree of passion varies from one fan to the other. However, this passion was elevated to the height of insanity by Henry Dhabasani and Rashid Yiga of the Iganga district of Eastern Uganda recently. Dhabasani, an arsenal fan, made a ridiculous wager by putting his house on the match and Rashid, a United fan, followed suit by betting with his wife and a car! They even formalised the deal by signing a written agreement in the presence of community leaders in the build-up to the match.Of course the match has come and gone with Dhabasani rendered homeless alongside his three wives and 5 children. United Robin Van Persie 27th minute goal neatly ensured that. Dhabasani was said to have fainted after the match that ended 1 - 0. Imagine what the United fan would have lost too if the outcome of the match had been otherwise, a car and...God have mercy, his w

Lionel persistent injury: a cause for concern?

Image
They re-ignited the pressing game, played total football, wowed us all with brilliant attacking football. Won all there was to win under the tutelage of the Brilliant Pep Guardiola. 2 things made them amazing above all other teams that tried to copy the Barcelona philosophy. The first is their pressing philosophy, that hunger to deprive the opposition of the ball, they did so by hogging the ball for as long as possible then when they lose the ball they fought to have it back like their lives depended on it and the other was the amazing Lionel Messi. He played for four amazing years under Guardiola and got injured just once. He was awesome, winning 3 consecutive ballon d'or, scoring goals, setting records.    Now to the post Guardiola era, Guardiola was replaced by his assistant Tito Villanova. And then the injuries began. He was chasing Gerd Muller's record of most goal scored in a season and was a goal shy from equaling it prior to the Benfica game. Brought in as

Messi is out for 8 weeks

Image
Years ago he looked unstoppable, setting records. scoring goals  with ease. Some people called him a machine, some said he was super human but his continuous battle with injury reminds us all that he his nothing but human. Lionel Messi is out for eight weeks  . Let's just hope he will be given all the time he needs to recover this time.

Ballon d'or 2013:where is the pendulum swinging?

Image
How fast does the fate of men change? Faster than your heartbeat? Two months ago, the Ballon do'r was arguably between Frank Ribery and Messi. Though based on team performance the former deserves it,having been part of the Bayern team that won all there was to win last season and you can also argue that the later deserves it based on individual performance. He was the best goal poacher in Europe last season.   Fast forward to this day and there is a new name on that list and it is ... You know his name already. The Madrid attacker has been in prolific form this season, breaking the most goal scored in a year in the Uefa champions league a record once held by Messi. With the latest injury suffered by Lionel  which will effectively rule out the diminutive argentine for at least eight weeks, it is enough to say his Ballon d'or chances are up in flames that is if he ever had one. Now, it is between C.ronaldo and Frank Ribery.

C.Ronaldo in hunt for another golden shoe.

Image
Cristiano Ronaldo tops the list. C.Ronaldo tops the list of the best marks men in Europe, the Real Madrid player has been in prolific form this season. With his hat-trick against Real Sociedad taking his league tally to 16. Surprisingly, the likes of Ibrahimovic, Falcao and even the 'great' Lionel Messi  are not on the list of the most potent goal scorers in Europe. Though you can't bet your money against any of these as the season goes on. Here are the top ten marks men in Europe and their respective clubs.

The weekend of the unexpected.

It started with Chelsea vs Westbrom, none of us expected Chelsea to drop points at least not after losing to Newcastle six days earlier but they did and it could have been another defeat if not for a 96th minute controversial penalty and we thought that was all. Then came the Tottenham game and just like their London neighbours they dropped points, all 3 points actually. Not surprising though, considering they have been wasteful in front of goal,9 goals from ten round of matches(prior to the Newcastle game) and it took them an average of fifteen shots on goal to get a goal. They had 31 shots on goal against Newcastle, yet no goal due to their profligacy and the keeper of the opposition. Tim Krul was awesome in goal,he made a total of fourteen saves but Tottenham were wasteful as well and that pretty sums up their season so far.    What happened to the blue side of Manchester? Considering history this result is not a surprise but on current form it is. They put 7 goals

My Thought On The Victorious Flying Eagles

Image
For three weeks they fought, they saw and they conquered but as wonderful as their display was only few would have thought they would emerge champions but just like the super eagles they soared high when we least expected. Game after game they grew in confidence. After the final game against Mexico, I asked myself one question and it is 'how come I ever underestimated this guys?' They were awesome and truly, the future of our football is bright if we can just keep majority of these boys.            The Good: Style of Play    Attacking at all points of the the games we played. Yahaya was awesome, reminds me of Iniesta, then there is Alfa! Where he can't go I'm sure his passes can. Alan Pasu was awesome in goal following the steps of his favourite goal keeper (Peter Cech). Iheanacho too was brilliant, his shooting and ability to play his team mates in was superb. However, he hogs the ball at times when the best option is to just play a team   The BAD: Back Five
