Degea De Gea sat out United's first Premier League game of the season against Tottenham on Saturday, with Louis van Gaal claiming that his goalkeeper was not in the right frame of mind to start the match. He sat in the stands with Victor Valdes, another goalkeeper who has crossed Van Gaal. Madrid failed with a £20m bid for De Gea last month, and the Daily Telegraph report that the club are yet to reopen talks regarding a move. That would leave De Gea facing the prospect of running down his contract before leaving on a free next summer. United reportedly want £35m for the Spaniard, a world record fee for a goalkeeper. One of the Telegraph's lines does stick in the throat a touch: 'United insist it would now take an exceptional offer to agree his sale'. Can we not translate that as 'please make us an exceptional offer, he really wants to go'?
